What is down?

Down is the soft inner plumage of water birds such as geese and ducks. Even though they do not have a feather's quill shaft, down has many light and fluffy filaments that extend in all directions. Down keeps birds warm in winter months, and cools them during the hot summer months. Down also provides breathable comfort, insulation and adds support because of it's ability to spring back into its original shape.

Due to its ability to let moister such as perspiration escape in a process known as "wicking," down is more comfortable than any other synthetic filling. A person never feels clammy with a high quality down comforter. Down is more comfortable in various climates than any other materials or fabrics. Moreover, because down is so light it is much more comfortable to sleep under.

What is Fill Power?

Fill power is the measure of the quality of down. After the extensive sorting and cleaning phases in manufacturing are completed, the down is measured for fill power rating. Fill power measures the number of cubic inches that a single ounce of down occupies. The very finest down has a fill power of a least 750 cubic inches per ounce (this is very rare and extremely expensive) and the lowest is around 300 per ounce. Higher fill power is equated with higher loft. Higher fill power down will last longer and insulate better and look fluffier. Higher fill power means more warmth with less weight, which results in a more comfortable and healthy sleep. At luxuriousgoosedowncomforters.com we market and focus on the higher comforters from 600 to over 750+ fill power.

What is fill weight?

Fill weight is the weight of down/feather included in a comforter, pillow, or featherbed. Fill weight is a measure of the quantity of the down, not its quality.

What is baffle box?

Open box design allows the down to be adjusted from one part of the comforter to another and create a distinctive comforter look. Baffles are vertical walls of fabric between the top and bottom of the comforter. Baffled walls allow the down to expand to its fullest potential for the hightest loft and no cold spots. Furthermore, baffles help to give comforters the appearance of depth. Baffle box construction is of a higher quality than sewn-through stitching.

What does "sewn-through stitching"?

It is when a stich goes from the top of the comforter directly through the comforter and comes out of the bottom of the comforter. It is a more economical form of construction to keep the down in place than the baffle box construction method.

What is a thread count?

A thread count equals the number of threads per square inch. The higher the thread count the tighter the fabric's weave is and this allows the fabric to feel soft and silky. Thread counts are slightly higher in down comforters, for example 240 tc and above are necessary to prevent leakage of the down from the inside to the outside.

Are your products hypoallergenic?

Our exceedingly rigorous cleaning process ensures that the down and feathers are non-allergenic, to provide relief to allergy sufferers. However, few people are actually allergic to down, but rather to dust, pollen, and other allerges found on raw down and feathers. Certain manufacturers in long-time down producing areas such as Hungary are very skilled and
experienced in the manufacturing hypoallergenic down comforters and bedding.

What sizes of comforters are available?
Available in 3 sizes: Twin 68x86 inches; Queen 88x92 inches, and King 107x96 inches

Each size available in 3 warmth levels: Summer, Medium, and Winter. Medium is best for year round use. Summer is for warm/summer weather use , or warm sleepers in heated bedrooms. Winter level is for those in extremely cold climates or those without room heating (such as in a cabin), or those who simply like the look of the extra high loft regardless of the high warmth level.

How do I care for my down bedding products?

One way is to always use a duvet cover to protect your down comforter from dirt and oils. Have your down comforter cleaned by an experienced dry cleaning professional no more than once every 3 years. If you have it cleaned more often the quality of down will deteriorate. Do not wash you comforter at home! Doing so may ruin your down comforter.
